where can I see manta rays?

Diving at Manta Point was going to be pretty much at the top of my Bali bucket list during my stay in southern Bali.

Anybody hoping to see these magnificent animals must visit Manta Point, as its name suggests, as it is the best location in Bali to see manta rays.

Why Do Manta Rays Exist in Nusa Penida?

The primary purpose of the manta rays’ visitation to Manta Point is for the cleaning stations. Numerous cleaning stations are positioned among the rocks, with one particularly large rock situated at the center of the dive site.

Small fish gather at the cleaning station. They frequently select reefs and rocks because they offer protection from the sea current and predators. It’s called a cleaning station because the manta rays visit these spots to enable the small fish to remove parasites from their skin.

They come here to feed, too. Because manta rays are channel feeders, they essentially swim around sucking in large amounts of zooplankton with their mouths open.

The manta rays may even be visible during their mating dance, if you’re extremely fortunate.

When Is Manta Ray Season In Nusa Penida?

If you’re planning a trip to Nusa Penida specifically for manta ray watching, it’s important to choose the right time to increase your chances of sightings. The best months for manta ray encounters are generally from May to September when water temperatures are cooler and currents are stronger. During this period, manta rays are more likely to gather in larger numbers, providing an incredible spectacle for divers and snorkelers.

However, weather conditions should also be taken into consideration when planning your trip.
